Biography
r.
Tovar received B. S. degrees in Electrical Engineering and Mathematics
from Portland State University in 1988. He received an M.
S.
and Ph. D. in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 1989 and 1995,
respectively,
also from Portland State University. He worked in research positions
for
Spectra Physics Corp. in 1989 and General Dynamics Corp. from
1989-1991.
From 1995 to 1998 he was a physics and engineering faculty member at
Murray
State University, and since 1998 he has been a physics and engineering
faculty member at Eastern Oregon University. In 2001 he was
promoted
to Associate Professor. He is an active
researcher in the field of laser beams and resonators, and reports
his activities in
journal
publication and conference
presentation. For example, he was a program committee chairman for
the Laser Resonators section of Photonics West 2000 in San Jose,
California. He is also the founding faculty
member for the now defunct Eastern Oregon University/Portland State
University cooperative
program in electrical engineering. Dr. Tovar has been a member of
the electrical
engineering honor society Eta Kappa Nu (HKN) and the research honor
society
Sigma Xi. Dr. Tovar's Biographical Listing is regularly published
in the Marquis Who's Who in Science and Engineering, the Sigma Xi Who's
Who publication, and the Marquis Who's Who in the World.
